Dawn's Family Reunion ~ Summer 2011
LaFountain Family Photos
New Orleans, LA ~ December 2007
You can have just as much fun in December in New Orleans as you probably could during Mardi Gras, only without the thousands of other people. The night life there is great! - just be safe. We listened to some fantastic bands as we walked around the French Quarter. One morning we visited the Cafe Du Monde - here is a link to their site. They serve the most wonderful French Market coffee, and don't forget to have some of their divine beignets!
While walking around I looked for signs of the flooding from Hurricane Katrina. One positive thing is that it's very active with tourists, despite the fact that so much rebuilding is still going on. Under many of the highway overpasses, people gathered in "tent cities," - these were the people who lost everything. That was sad to see - you could see kids here and there scattered amongst them. When the sun comes up, they pack up their tents and just sort of mill about it seemed. Daily ritual.
While there I captured many funny, weird and unusual things. I'll be posting some of the photos below.
California ~ 2008 Sonoma Valley and San Francisco, CA Trip
Touring Sonoma Valley north of San Francisco via Harley Davidson was such a fantastic trip for Mark and I! What a beautiful country it is ~ we were there during harvest time in September, and had the pleasure of walking through a couple of marvelous vineyards we found. We sampled grapes right off of the vine, sampled several wines that each vineyard produced, and learned about the wine-making process itself! The fun didn't stop there ~ I mentioned that we began our tour on a Harley Davidson motorcycle; explored the California coastline via the coastal highway. Five days of riding a Harley was probably one of the neatest things I've ever done..I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
